More Than A Zoo: Highlighting the personal connections and the broader impact of the WNC Nature Center in its 100th year
This month’s Centennial Q&A is with five-year-old Jonah, whose mom Cindy works as the Friends of the WNC Nature Center’s Development Director. Cindy interviewed Jonah about his experiences at the WNC Nature Center.
Meet Jonah
What is your role at the Nature Center?
My mommy works with the Nature Center!
Personal Connection
What keeps you wanting to go back to the Nature Center?
I really like the animals. I also like the Spider Web playground! The tractor is so fun. I like to sit on the turtle and play with the puppets.
Can you share a favorite memory or experience at the Nature Center that stands out?
I had my 4th birthday party at the Nature Center! Me and all my friends wore animals masks. And ate cupcakes.
What is one cool thing about having your mom work at the Nature Center?
Sometimes when you work, and sometimes when it’s not a school day, I can come with you and play at the Nature Center!
Mission & Impact
What did you learn about when your class visited the Nature Center for a field trip recently?
We learned about the box turtle, and then we ate our lunch on the grass! And we ran around. We also saw the otters playing in the water.
Fun Reflection
If you could be any animal at the Nature Center, which one would you be and why?
The bobcat – Tufts especially. I like Tufts. I just like his name. And he looks so cool. It’s cool that he can climb. And that he can run so, so, so fast! The bobcat is my favorite animal at the Nature Center!
How would you describe the Nature Center in three words?
N is for Nature
Animals
Bobcats
