Moth Night at the Nature Center

July 24, 2026
Jul 24, 2026 8:30PM
– 10:30PM

Celebrate NC Moth Week during this family-friendly evening of discovery at the WNC Nature Center! This event invites you to explore the fascinating world of moths at your own pace while enjoying a variety of interactive activities throughout the evening.

Visit lightsheeting stations, where special lights attract moths for up-close viewing. Learn fun facts about moth ecology and how to identify different species. Guests can also join guided tours featuring a few of our nocturnal feathered and feline friends, offered periodically throughout the night.

Educators from the North Carolina Arboretum will host one of our mothing stations, offering even more opportunities to discover the amazing diversity of moths and the important ecological roles they play in Western North Carolina.

This event is part of NC Moth Week, an annual citizen science initiative taking place July 18–26, 2026. Guests will learn how to contribute real scientific data by uploading observations to iNaturalist and discover how to participate in NC Moth Week activities to earn an official badge or sticker.

Your ticket includes event access beginning at 8:30 PM and a guided tour at your selected time. Guests may arrive anytime between 8:30 PM and their scheduled tour to mingle and explore. Tours depart promptly from the farmyard area at the scheduled time and last approximately 30 minutes.

Pre-registration is required. All ages are welcome. Children ages 2 and under are free; please note their age during registration. Some areas may not be stroller accessible. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
